What Encapsulation Involves

Encapsulation means applying a specialist protective coating, wrap, or sealant to asbestos-containing materials. This prevents degradation, moisture damage, and airborne fibre release while allowing continued safe use of the building.

Common encapsulation methods include:

Rigid Board Encapsulation: Covering AIB or lagging with new protective panels
Spray or Paint Coatings: Applying sealants or polymer coatings
Cloth or Fabric Wraps: Reinforcing lagging or pipework with specialist wraps
Mechanical Protection: Boxing-in or sealing ACMs behind barrier
